What would stories about humanity look like if archaeologists could study perishable materials, such as textiles and wood, that have broken down and dissolved over time? Perhaps our history writing would look completely different. Instead of the Iron and Bronze Ages, we would talk about the ages of thread and weaving, and perhaps textiles as a primeval technology are the key to future global problem solving.
In the exhibition, the visitor is invited to reflect on how textiles, threads and patterns have shaped culture, identity and everyday life. Here, the abstractions of Western modernism are traced in traditional patterns, and ceremonial textiles and inherited crafts inspire collective and queer contexts.
The exhibition is curated by Cecilia Widenheim and Bella Rune and is based on Bella Rune’s many years of artistic research. For her, thread is more than a material – it is the key to forgotten knowledge, to memories and to understanding the human condition.
Soft Logic provides a deeper understanding of the meaning of textiles and their imprint through time. The exhibition was first shown at Tensta Konsthall and now continues at Lund konsthall with partly new works adapted to the specific architecturer.
